Stopping SPAM

Everybody’s favorite satirist news source has a great infographic about stopping spam. I figured I’d share my tips with you real quick.

1. Mozilla Thunderbird, start using it. Or just use Mail.app if you’re on OSX. Follow the directions for turning on the Junk Mail Filtering, and take a few days to train it as to what is SPAM and what isn’t.
2. If you use a fruit and don’t use Mail, then get SpamSieve, I hear it’s pretty friggin awesome
3. Get an email provider that uses SpamAssassin technology
4. DON’T LIST YOUR EMAIL ANYWHERE. Seriously. If you need an email to sign up for the latest and greatest updates of something, get something like huggybear1712@yahoo.com, and use that.
5. ALWAYS opt-out of anything that looks like you’ll receive email from someone, especially if they want to “inform you of product and service updates and more!”
