Things I like about San Francisco
  • Cafes
I like sitting in places like Atlas or Cafe International or La Honda. It’s great. Things like this were what I knew I’d miss most about moving way from the Coffee Table in Columbus and the Granville Coffee shop. It’s where I feel at ease
  • Food
Seriously. The food here couldn’t be any better. Within 4 blocks of my house I have 3 Indian places, two Thai, Japanese, Falafel, Ethiopian, and of course one of the two best pizza places in SF.
  • Cycling/Biking I seriously love it. The hills, the flatlands, everything. There are so many resources for those of us who are fairly newbie-ish about it, but want to learn.
  • The Farm
I love it. I enjoy working with my hands and the people. I also love the amazing potlucks we have.
  • Erin, Travis, Sean, Will, PANNA folk… I actually have a fair amount of folks here that are great. It’s grown considerably since Ben, Joe and Meghan left. Thankfully I’m not totally alone!
  • Music
There are great shows and I get to see a paltry number of them and I’m still not jonesing for a show fix.
Things I don’t like or get annoyed with about this place
  • Cliques
Seriously. This place is so cliquey. Whether it’s the old-school punks, or the mission hipsters or the vague grouping of anarchists, this place is very divided. That’s not even getting into the Marina folks.
  • Prices
For serious. This place is expensive. I mean, you get what you pay for and all that, but seriously, it’s nuts sometimes.
  • The bubble
I often can be heard equating San Francisco with having moved to Canada or another country. It’s true. This place is really about the same atmosphere. It’s so removed from the realities of the rest of the country, it’s ridiculous.
Those are about twenty minutes of brainstorming. I guess I like this place. Who’d have thunk it. One thing that didn’t make it was the weather. I’m still undecided. I mean, it’s January and I’m comfortably sitting at an outside patio without a fucking parka on, wearing only a mid-weight long-sleeve shirt. At the same time, I miss the cold, dry bitterness that accompanies snow. Who knows.

I think I’m staying here for a bit. I know that Dan and Sarah want to visit not this summer, but next. I guess that means I have to stay. I think I’ll start looking at Graduate Schools in earnest, rather than feinting it to motivate those around me.
