So if you’ve (really bored and) looking at my AIM status in the past day or checked out my
audioscrobblings, I’ve been constantly playing
Smoke or Fire’s new album
Above the City. It’s so freaking good. A nice punk blast of energy and emotion. They used to be called Jericho RVA, and hail from Richmond, VA (get it, RVA) and share more than a few similarities with
other RVA natives. It’s not so much that it’s hard to describe their sound really, just that the overwhelming feeling I get from it is so positive and excited that it’s hard to qualify that with some sort of measure of awesomeness. These four lines are part of the chorus to
Culture as Given, and are a nice summary of their political side.
are you the person they said would save me?
cause I don’t want to be saved
killing is easy when you don’t see faces
when you don’t have to dig graves
It’s just really great music. PLUS, they have two mp3s for you to hear, and they happen to be two of the best songs on the album.
