a whole load of shit.
Picking up the last few minutes of the Redskins game tonite. They are, of course, breaking my heart just like every other sports team I could ever get behind. The Red Sox being the best example of this. If there were ever a team that I could really believe had a curse on them, it would be the Sox. I mean seriously, what the hell is wrong with them? The manager tried to take Pedro out…but no, he had to stay in. And now I’m seeing a damn Yankees commercial on TV. Fuckers. Speaking of weird things for me to talk about…I can’t think of anything. So I’ll go with the normal. I’m going home for Thanksgiving. Yay for me. Speaking of, I need to buy my ticket to get back right now. God it’s expensive. No fun at all. I had to get up at 7:30am today and had a meeting in New Brunswick for a long time. So yeah, Sunday wasn’t the best day. But we were able to have someone stop by and look at the extra room in the apartment, and I think he’s going to take it. I feel that right now, we really can’t ask for anything better than a warm body to fill the space and pay rent and bills, so I’m a happy guy. Nellie probably has reservations, but I think she’d kick me out if she could, which is understandable. I started writing this Sunday night, but fell asleep and started again on Monday. Weird. Windows XP Service Pack 2 will be delayed for a bit. The reason is that MSFT is working to include more security features, which of course, people want. I would hate it if my computer got screwed over. Including a firewall (which you all should use, try zonealarm) that actually does something is awesome, as are the other steps. Personally, a couple extra months for some better features is fine with me. By then I’ll probably have completely crossed over to the dark side, but I’ll still have my PC. American Splendor is an awesome movie. Go see it. It’s about Cleveland, one of the best cities in the US. And it’s about comics, and R Crumb is in it. How can you argue? You can’t. The new Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros cd is far from perfect. It’s immaculate. It’s above perfection, in a way that makes me fill with sadness and grief that a man that was possible not only of crossing every single musical genre but also of crafting a message full of hope, love, and positivity into his music was taken at such a young age (50 years old). In fact, you would never think that the man that was singing these songs was half a century old. His voice is full of energy, life and hope. Streetcore hits the streets soon, buy it. In the meantime, buy Rock Art and the X-Ray style and Global a Go-Go. There are amazing records. The non-profit I work is releasing an awesome little report called Weird Science soon. It’s all about genetic engineering in agriculture (both plants and animals). Check out their campaign site here. I’ve moved into the next stage of my indie/apple/scenester conversion. I really love wearing white button up dress shirts. Preferably with some design on them, but very subdued. Leave it untucked, flip the collar up and proceed to be a bastard. Along with the unshaven face, the weird hair, the black plastic glasses and the slowly but surely stretching ears, I am closer every day to hating myself! Or rather, turning into someone that I would probably scoff at. I bet I’m straight edge too. Oh, and vegetarian. In fact, I bet I took a job after college (at a liberal arts school, surely) that pays little, but I do it because I’m “making a difference” and working on “social and environmental issues on behalf of the public”. I “create communities”. What a pretentious fuck I am. Speaking of something that has little to do with what came before…the new Lawrence Arms cd is finally mine. I have seen one copy in the state of New Jersey, which was at the Beast Buy over near the Hamilton Mall, and it found its way home with me. I am beating myself in the face for not having just ordered the damn thing sooner. Take the awesome production of Apathy and Exhausion, combine it with the very indie rock/post punk lyrics and rhythmic experimentatino of Ghost Stories, throw it in a blender with a healthy dose of political anger, and you get The Greatest Story Ever Told. I am seeing them tomorrow with AGAINST ME! and I couldn’t be happier. Well, I could. If someone was coming with me, I’d probably be much more excited. But the only person who would go has a test of some sort on Wednesday, so I lose. I enjoy emailing people back and forth. So email me. It’s quite easy. justin @ thesixman.com I am heading to DC this weekend. In theory it’s for the bring home the troops rally, but really, it’s so I can see my friends. Erin, Seagull, Diane, etc are all going to be there. It shall be loads of fun. And that’s all I have.
