Yesterday blew. Hard. So I went to bed at like 10 and slept really well. Although when I woke up at 2:30am the power was out, so in my half asleep haze, I called Jenn to make sure she was okay (she’s housesitting), and in the process realized it was really weird for me to do that. But oh well, she thought it was nice. It’s nice to have a really good friend in and around the immediate area. We aren’t very similar at all, but do get along really well. She thinks she’s tough, but is a big sissy.
I dropped by Borders and picked up a couple books.
The Pine Barrens by John McPhee, which was recommended to me by Dave Hawkins, a geology professor at
Denison, and promises to be educational about my current surroundings, which will be nice.
Ecology of Cracker Childhood is a book by Janisse Ray, and looks to be an interesting examination of the perception of nature and the environment based on the typical suburban white person’s experience. Interesting to me at least. I am pretty stoked just because of the title.
The Best American Non-Required Reading is an anthology of fiction, whether it be short of long from a ton of places, like the New Yorker and the Onion. I need something entertaining right now, so I think it’ll do. I also bought the seminal Jew-Rap cd
CHECK YOUR HEAD. This is a CD I have owned several times and keep having to repurchase. It is worth the money everytime, and has spurred me on to buy a new copy of Paul’s Boutique as well. Apparently New Jersey has a ban on the Lawrence Arms. Borders had fucking cds by fucking Bright Eyes and Cursive, but no LARRY ARMS. This state obviously hates me.
Oh, in dorkier news, I’ve decided to learn spanish. Many reasons, some of which being that that I want to talk to Lalo in Spanish, I think it’d be fun and because I want to know how to speak another language. More dorky news is that I’m slowly updating other parts of the site, so it’s more than just an
emo diary and has some sort of content. Woo.
Oh. That’s it.
