I went and saw Erin today. Johnny B accompanied us to lunch, and I apologize to all those I didn’t see, but this was a kind of impromptu visit, with little to no planning at all. It was amazing to walk around
Coolumbus in the wonderful sun and heat. I really do love the sun and heat. I haven’t written here lately for a couple reasons. First of all, I haven’t felt that I had anything to say. At least, nothing that I felt I wanted to share with the world at large. Secondly, I’ve been purposely trying to divest myself from the computer. You come to a point where you realize that something is no longer a tool or a method, but is a crutch and something that you rely on. For me, the computer has usurped all of my interpersonal contact, leaving me to fall out of touch with people at a rapid rate. Tonight, I talked on the phone with PIRGbot and love of my life Matt Elliott on my way home from Denison and it was wonderful. Such a conversation could not be had through text and emoticons. This isn’t to say that instant messaging, email, and the other sundry methods of contact and interaction provided by a computer aren’t wonderful, at the very least for their speed and efficacy, it’s just that sometimes you want the visceral experience of actually hearing, seeing, or touching the person that you are conversing with.
On a related spur, I am quite tired of having so much shit. This is related, because currently I have a
laptop and a desktop. As a 22 year old who is selling other belongings and scrounging money to save up with, I feel as if it is quite irresponsible for me to have such luxuries. I also feel that as a person who is dedicated to the mantra of “consume less” and quite appalled at the state of mass consumption that engulfs our modern society, such an excess is out of character and misaligned with how I feel one should live. That being said, my master plan is to sell it all off and end up with a new
powerbook from those kind folks at Apple.
Many people are surprised that I would buy a Mac. After all, I am a nerd, a geek, and other such dorktacular titles. Well, I’m also an elitist and condescending, so I guess the Mac’s for me! Actually at this point it’s just plain preference that drives me to it. For me, both platforms are equally compatible, it’s just that right now, I want a laptop only, and OSX works better on one than XP does, in my opinion. I also am considerably less geeky than I used to be. I only download music from online music stores, namely
iTunes and
AudioLunchbox. ALB is the preferred choice for independent releases, because you get them without DRM restrictions. All in all, I think that this whole online music buying thing is great, and that people should stop stealing music.
Issues like that make me think about the schism between legality and morality. Some people base their morals and ethics on the laws of the land, while others do not, and in consequence my break some laws while acting in their own moral sphere. I know that I am included in the latter group, as are most of the people I’ve ever met. Interesting.
There’s an update.
