Martha Stewart. Ken Lay. wtf.
Awesome. Martha is guilty. Of what you may ask? I believe it’s “lying”. Oh, you didn’t know that they dropped the actual charges of impropriety against her? Yeah, a lot of folks don’t. Another thing a lot of folks don’t know, or at least like to forget, is that folks like Ken Lay, Enron magnate, walk the streets without any substantial punishment from our government. Sound fishy? Reeks like old cod to me. It’s not worth it to retread the path of the George W. Bush connection to Mr. Lay. Suffice to say, the two of them are in bed together and don’t even bother to shut the door. But the real bitch about this all is that while what Martha did was obviously wrong (and who doesn’t want to see her macramé ass behind bars?), it didn’t directly hurt thousands of employees without wonderful golden parachutes. Obviously, any (or at least most) criminal act involving thousands of dollars, solid or stock, hurts someone involved. It’s basically not a crime otherwise. However, there is a difference between the ruination of an entire company of employees and the private investing of a citizen, regardless of their position as a CEO of a company. Granted, it is needed in our modern economic structure to have CEO’s who are responsible in both personal and professional lives, but why not go after those who are irresponsible in the ways that affect the most people? Plainly put, it’s admirable that they are going after corporate corruption, but they aren’t going after the right fucking people! Just because he gives you money doesn’t mean he’s less (or more) heinous than anyone else Mr. Bush. How about going after those that commit these improprieties first, instead of waiting until you get heat for ignoring the oversteps of your friends? This kind of stuff burns me up, and the worst thing is that what happens is that the majority of the public will now think that this administration is “tough on bad businesses”. I had thought there was a much more meaningful, well-stated rant involved in all of this, but somehow, my irritation overtook me.
