The idiocy of the Democrats...
Sometimes I'm amazed at just how dumb the Democrats can be. First they eschew Dean in favor of Kerry because of "electability" (a characteristic that he seems not to have as of late) and now they have allowed the Republicans to frame the terms of the debate. This whole Swift Boat mess is just ridiculous. As you can find out on Host's blog, tons of people are coming out saying that Kerry is "bad bad man", however others are saying that Bush is a "bad bad man", and in fact, the man who allowed him to get into the National Guard now regrets his mistake. Some folks making a documentary have him on video saying it. I swiped it from Salon, and bring it to you. Watch!
I just get frustrated with the old jackasses. They seem to have no idea how to steer a campaign. Whoever thought that Kerry's service in Vietnam was a good counter to Bush's record with war as a President needs a "swift boot" to the head. It's hard to compare the actions of a man controlling the entire armed forces with a Massachusetts dilettante commanding a boat in Vietnam. And honestly, to be dragging up Bush's sketchy at best Vietnam service is also dishonest. It's the type of past that deserves to be buried.
However, the past that doesn't deserve to be buried is Bush's environmental record. Whereas the Republicans used to use bad science to discredit things like global warming, with the Bush campaign they figured out something more devious. Use good science (like the cutting out of underbrush and certain types of trees) to sell things like the Healthy Forest initiative, but actually have the bill itself do something completely different. In reality, the types of cutting that need to be done to prevent forest fires are underway, and this new bill only introduced the cutting down of those trees which are attractive to paper companies. A similar bill was pushed through with the Clear Skies Initiative, which allows old power plants to be re-grandfathered in through the Clean Air Act, which would have previously forced them to upgrade to newer standards upon expansion, but they now can grow as much as possible without the need to adapt to modern health standards. Oh, and they announce these things on Friday, holidays and other times when people are least likely to pay attention to the news.
I honestly don't know a lot about Kerry's record, because I'm not a pro-Kerry person. Sadly, due to the dropout of Dean, I am an Anti-Bush man. Hopefully some day I'll be a pro-voter, but until somebody presents a candidate that adequately represents my views (Dean wasn't perfect, but he did come kind of close to it), I'll be voting against the greater of two evils.
ps: At least some WV'ians are put off by this whole attack thing.
